Postgraduate research

We have a thriving PhD programme, with some students supervised entirely within the Division of Statistics, others jointly with colleagues in other areas of mathematics, and other students supervised jointly with colleagues from other Schools.

New PhD students join a high-calibre yet friendly research environment. They are
encouraged to participate in the division’s weekly seminars, PhD reading groups and research group meetings, while daily social activities create a supportive environment for all our students. Training opportunities are provided in the first year as part of St Andrews’ participation in the Scottish Mathematical Sciences Training Centre and the Academy for Postgraduate Training in Statistics.

If you are interested in joining us as a PhD student, please read PhD opportunities in the Division (pdf).  See also the School PhD research web page for general information about PhDs within the School. Feel free to contact potential supervisors by email (see People) and for general enquiries the Postgraduate Officer responsible for PhDs in Statistics, Dr Giorgos Minas, email: [email protected].

Our students run weekly meetings to discuss upcoming seminars and share current challenges of their studies. The above photo was taken during the break at one of these meetings.
